First People Solutions is working with a well‑established and highly respected consulting engineer who are seeking a Technical Manager to join their team in Edinburgh. Our client is a large, multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable solutions on complex projects across the UK. Their extensive portfolio spans local and national infrastructure, covering disciplines including geo‑environmental, transportation, structures, renewables, and water services.

The Role

This is a senior technical role with responsibility for overseeing design quality, technical assurance, and multidisciplinary coordination across highways and infrastructure projects. You will provide technical leadership, ensure compliance with UK standards (including DMRB and MCHW), contribute to projects success, and support the development of engineers within the team. The role also involves client engagement, business development, and supporting the commercial performance and growth of the business.

Key Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Chartered Status preferred (CEng)
  • 6‑12 years of experience working within a design engineering environment in the UK
  • Strong background in civil infrastructure and highway design
  • Proven experience overseeing technical delivery and design assurance
  • Excellent knowledge of UK design standards and statutory processes
  • Commercial awareness and experience working with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to oversee projects, mentor, and lead engineers
