Overview: We are seeking a highly versatile, professional, and self-motivated Shift Engineer to join a fast-paced production environment. This is a hands-on, site-based role supporting the smooth operation of a large-scale facility handling high-volume production. This opportunity is particularly well suited to ex-military engineers and personnel, where discipline, reliability, strong technical aptitude, and a proactive approach are highly valued. In particular, this role would be an excellent fit for ex-Navy Marine Engineers, due to their experience working with complex mechanical and electrical systems, fault finding, and operating in demanding environments. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic engineering team responsible for maintaining plant machinery, utilities, and site infrastructure. This role requires strong fault-finding ability, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background with an electrical bias, alongside a flexible, can-do attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.

What Is Required:

  • Carry out proactive and reactive maintenance on plant machinery, utilities, and site equipment.
  • Perform fault finding on electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Work with PLC systems, 3-phase motors, boilers, bearings, and pulleys.
  • Assist in the implementation and completion of planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
  • Diagnose and repair faults efficiently to minimise downtime.
  • Conduct routine daily, weekly, and monthly machinery checks.
  • Support the smooth running of production by liaising with operational teams.
  • Follow safe systems of work and maintain high Health & Safety standards.
  • Assist with risk assessments and ensure compliance with COSHH regulations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Support engineering team development and assist with training where required.
  • Attend breakdown call-outs when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of all work areas.
  • Work the defined rotating shift pattern and remain flexible where required.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Electrical bias preferred).
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced production or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with PLC systems and industrial machinery.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge is essential.
  • Ex-military engineering background highly desirable, particularly ex-Navy Marine Engineers.
  • FMCG background is advantageous but not essential.

Additional Requirements:

  • Physically fit, as the role may involve heavy lifting.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Proactive attitude with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Good communication skills across all levels of the business.

Additional Benefits:

  • Company Pension Scheme
  • Free Life Assurance
  • Health & wellbeing support (including 24/7 GP access & EAP)
  • Discounted gym membership
