First Military Recruitment is seeking a Mechanical Project Manager to oversee installation projects. The ideal candidate must work under pressure, meet deadlines, and proactively deliver projects on time, within budget, and to high mechanical standards. A self-starter comfortable working independently or within a project team, capable of managing multiple mechanical projects simultaneously. Ex-military personnel are encouraged to apply, but all candidates will be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure mechanical projects are completed to Safety, Quality, Time, and Cost standards, consistently exceeding client expectations.
  • Manage the construction, installation, and handover of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Take projects from purchase order through to completion: verify specifications, organise staff and materials, and coordinate specialist mechanical contractors (e.g., pump, valve, and generator installation).
  • Chair project meetings and attend site meetings with Operations Director and client representatives.
  • Plan mechanical project programmes (MS Project), including resource allocation and scheduling.
  • Prepare and maintain site documentation (H&S files, mechanical drawings, commissioning records).
  • Administer contracts, manage variations, and communicate implications to cost and programme.
  • Monitor and manage mechanical project risks.
  • Track mechanical installation progress against programme.
  • Ensure completion of snagging and compilation of operation, maintenance, and mechanical manuals.
  • Archive mechanical project records and documentation appropriately.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in mechanical project management (minimum 3 years) within commercial, industrial, or technical environments.
  • Trade qualification or equivalent mechanical background preferred.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of risk assessments, method statements, COSHH, and CDM2015.
  • Health & safety qualification (min SSSTS, preferred SMSTS); IOSH or NEBOSH desirable.
  • PC literate - MS Word, Excel, and MS Project.
