We are seeking a Mechanically Biased Trainee Commissioning Engineer to join a growing installation and commissioning team delivering a variety of building services and BMS projects across Central Manchester and surrounding areas. The role focuses on ensuring newly installed Building Management Systems (BMS) and associated mechanical HVAC systems are correctly installed, commissioned, tested, and fully operational prior to client handover. The business has a strong interest in offering opportunities to Ex‑military and service leavers, valuing discipline, reliability, technical aptitude, and a proactive approach to learning and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out pre‑commissioning inspections of mechanical and BMS installations completed by subcontractors to ensure minimum standards and project requirements are met.
  • Address BMS controllers and load pre‑written software into controllers.
  • Test software points and controlled items to ensure operation aligns with the Description of Operation.
  • Commission, test, and verify mechanical HVAC systems, including air and water systems, pumps, boilers, chillers, valves, AHUs, and associated plant.
  • Fault‑find and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control issues to ensure safe and efficient system operation.
  • Rectify software issues on site in liaison with the Technical Manager.
  • Complete electronic commissioning sheets and engineer report sheets.
  • Report software or physical installation issues accurately and promptly.
  • Coordinate with installation teams, subcontractors, BMS engineers, and clients to ensure commissioning snags and blockers are resolved efficiently.
  • Provide commissioning progress updates to the Project Manager.
  • Assist in producing installation drawings for subcontractors under the direction of Project and Technical Managers.
  • Assist in producing project software under the direction of the Technical Manager.
  • Ensure all site software is backed up and saved correctly within the company’s electronic folder structure.
  • Support client demonstrations and system handovers upon completion.
  • Work independently or as part of a wider site team.
  • Undertake occasional working away from home (accommodation provided with additional allowance).

Skills and Experience:

  • Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (essential).
  • Proven mechanical or HVAC background (commissioning experience desirable but not essential).
  • Experience or exposure to hydraulics, pumps, boilers, chillers, valves, or AHUs.
  • BMS or CHP exposure (advantageous but not essential).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong work ethic, practical problem-solving skills, and willingness to develop.
