First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Sommelier on behalf of one of our clients. Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Curate and maintain an extensive and diverse wine list that reflects the tastes and preferences of members while considering seasonal trends and food pairings.
- Provide expert wine recommendations and guidance to members and guests, ensuring an exceptional and personalised wine experience.
- Oversee the wine service, including proper presentation, pouring techniques and glassware.
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef and kitchen team to create and update wine and food pairing options that complement the seasonal menu.
- Educate and train staff on wine offerings, proper service techniques and tasting notes to elevate the overall service experience.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new wine releases and emerging regions, ensuring the wine list is dynamic and of the highest quality.
- Handle wine-related events, tastings and private member functions, creating memorable experiences for members.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with alcohol-related regulations and standards in service.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Sommelier in a fine dining or luxury hospitality setting, ideally within a private members club or similar environment.
- Extensive knowledge of wine regions, varietals and trends, with a refined palate and the ability to recommend wines that complement various cuisines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with members and staff.
- Certification in wine education (e.g., WSET Level 3 or equivalent) preferred.
- Exceptional organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Passion for wine and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, in alignment with the club’s operating hours.
