Overview:
First Military Recruitment are currently searching for a HGV Mechanic to join one of our clients who are based in Stockport. The core purpose of this job function is to be responsible for the assembly process of a Mechanised Infantry Vehicle, working in line with the company’s procedures and to specific Health and Safety guidelines. While this role primarily involves day shift work, flexibility is required for alternative projects and shift patterns based on business needs. Additionally, all candidates must complete training at a facility in Germany, which may last up to six months. Our client strongly encourages applications from ex-military personnel but all candidates will be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure their personal safety and the safety of other employees is not compromised by their actions and to apply applicable safety requirements to comply with the regulatory agencies.
- Final assembly of armoured wheeled vehicles and sub-assemblies.
- Problem-solving, fault-finding and rectification work where required.
- Interpreting drawings and standard operating instructions.
- Diagnosing mechanical issues, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, proposing a course of action, and rectifying where relevant.
- The use of diagnostic software systems to complete the initial installation of software and diagnose/repair any issues.
- Order parts and equipment as necessary to fulfil job requirements.
- Work collaboratively with line manager and across other departments, assisting with their work-load when necessary.
- Complete all documentation and attesting for work within the MRP system (SAP).
- Undertake training to enhance competence when required, this may involve occasional off-site travel to Germany.
- Actively transfer knowledge and provide on the job training when required.
- Ability to complete allocated tasks to deadlines as prescribed by the business.
- Willing to engage with the company’s 5’s and housekeeping policies.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a HGV/LGV mechanic, holding a HGV Mechanic Certification (City & Guilds or NVQ) or equivalent.
- Holding a Level 3 Diploma in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of HGV mechanics, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality.
