JB425: HGV FitterLocation: Milton KeynesSalary: £38,610 Per AnnumOverview:First Military Recruitment are looking for an experienced, commercial vehicle repair and maintenance HGV technician to join one of our renowned clients based in Milton Keynes.This is a family owned and run company with very low turnover of staff. They operate a large fleet of construction vehicles, including tippers, skip trucks, grab trucks, and low loaders.The successful applicant will be required to undertake all aspects of vehicle servicing, maintenance, and repair to keep the fleet to DVSA standards.You will be based out of our clients large 6 bay workshop in Milton Keynes, and will be working Monday to Friday, 7:30am- 5pm.Duties & Responsibilities for the HGV Fitter:
- Carry out routine maintenance and servicing of HGVs in line with manufacturer specifications
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults on vehicles and trailers
- Perform MOT preparations, safety inspections, and roadworthiness checks
- Complete defect reports and job cards accurately and timely
- Replace or repair faulty parts using hand tools and specialist equipment
- Conduct diagnostic testing using electronic diagnostic tools and software
- Ensure all work complies with current health & safety and DVSA regulations
- Liaise with parts departments and suppliers for ordering components
- Keep up-to-date with industry regulations and technical developments
- Maintain a clean and organised working environment
- Participate in call-out rota or shift patterns as required
Skills & Qualifications for the HGV Fitter:
- NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent)
- Proven experience as an HGV mechanic/fitter or similar role
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools and repair manuals
- Full UK Driving Licence (HGV Class 1 or 2 desirable but not essential)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Awareness of health & safety and DVSA regulations
- IRTEC or equivalent technician accreditation (desirable but not essential)
- Time-served apprenticeship in vehicle maintenance (preferred)
