Overview
We are looking for an experienced Hydraulic Engineer to join a growing and well-established engineering business based in Avonmouth, Bristol. This role involves the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of hydraulic systems within industrial and manufacturing environments. You will work closely with mechanical, electrical and controls engineering teams, delivering high‑quality engineering solutions across a diverse range of projects. Former Armed Forces personnel are strongly encouraged to apply, particularly those with transferable mechanical, hydraulic or engineering experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop hydraulic systems and associated components
- Diagnose and resolve hydraulic faults on industrial machinery and equipment
- Carry out hydraulic calculations, system testing and performance analysis
- Support installation, commissioning and refurbishment projects
- Produce technical documentation, drawings and reports
- Liaise with clients, suppliers and internal engineering teams
- Provide technical support during project delivery and maintenance activities
- Ensure all work complies with relevant health and safety standards
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices
Candidate Requirements (Essential)
- HNC/HND, Apprenticeship or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience working with hydraulic systems in industrial, manufacturing, process or heavy engineering environments
- Strong understanding of hydraulic circuits, pumps, valves, cylinders and power packs
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and engineering drawings
- Proven fault‑finding and diagnostic experience
- Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Full UK Driving Licence
Candidate Requirements (Desirable)
- Experience with electro‑hydraulic control systems
- Knowledge of PLC‑controlled equipment and industrial automation
- Experience within manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, aggregates or industrial sectors
- IOSH or other relevant health and safety qualifications
- Military engineering background
- Experience supporting installation and commissioning projects
