Overview: First Military Recruitment is working in partnership with our reputable client who is seeking an Operations Manager to join their team in Uxbridge. Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will oversee daily branch operations, ensuring compliance with transport legislation, health and safety standards, and operational procedures while leading teams to deliver an efficient, customer-focused service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Branch Manager in the day-to-day management of branch operations and deputise during periods of absence.
  • Lead, motivate, and manage warehouse and operational teams, including Foremen, Porters, and Drivers.
  • Ensure compliance with all transport legislation, Health and Safety requirements, and company policies.
  • Manage vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, MOTs, tachograph calibrations, and defect reporting.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure all documentation is completed and retained in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Ensure all drivers comply with drivers' hours regulations and tachograph legislation, including training, monitoring, and record keeping.
  • Monitor compliance with overloading and speeding regulations, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
  • Ensure all Traffic Commissioner undertakings and statutory reporting requirements are met.
  • Oversee all warehouse operational paperwork, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with company procedures.
  • Act as the key liaison between the business, customers, clients, and alternative facilities.
  • Ensure operational matters are completed within agreed timescales and produce operational reports for management.
  • Manage warehouse operations to maximise capacity, improve efficiency, and control operational costs.
  • Oversee the effective use of the Moveware system, including bookings and container movements.
  • Accurately record crate usage to support invoicing processes.
  • Manage the operation diary and ensure efficient allocation of resources.
  • Authorise timesheets, expenses, and holiday requests in accordance with company procedures.
  • Support HR by ensuring onboarding documentation for new employees is completed and submitted.
  • Assist with customer queries, complaints, and damage reports.
  • Implement and maintain operational processes and procedures that support continuous improvement.
  • Undertake additional duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous operations or transport management experience within the removals, logistics, or warehouse sector.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with experience managing operational teams.
  • Good understanding of transport legislation, fleet maintenance, drivers' hours, and tachograph compliance.
  • Knowledge of domestic and commercial moving operations.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and prioritisation skills.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer-focused with a commitment to delivering high service standards.
  • Ability to motivate teams and work effectively under pressure.
  • Good IT skills, including experience with warehouse or transport management systems such as Moveware.
  • Good literacy and administrative skills.
  • Full UK driving licence (essential).
  • Physically fit with a willingness to work flexible hours.
