Overview: First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Skilled Mechanic on behalf of one of our clients. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and qualified mechanic to join a well-established engineering team responsible for maintaining and repairing a modern fleet of vehicles. The successful candidate will carry out servicing, diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and breakdown support, ensuring vehicles remain safe, reliable, and fit for operation. The role is ideally suited to skilled mechanics with experience working on HGVs, PSV vehicles, commercial vehicles, cars, vans, military vehicles, or other motor vehicles.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and carry out mechanical repairs, servicing, and component replacement.
- Identify vehicle faults and determine appropriate repair methods.
- Carry out routine servicing, preventative maintenance, and vehicle inspections.
- Conduct mechanical fault finding and diagnostics.
- Use diagnostic equipment and handheld data capture devices where applicable.
- Attend roadside breakdowns and recovery callouts when required.
- Carry out vehicle road tests to identify faults and verify completed repairs.
- Inspect mechanical components and identify potential defects before they develop into major issues.
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely and to the required engineering standards.
- Accurately complete maintenance documentation and service records.
- Work as part of a wider engineering team to minimise vehicle downtime.
Skills and Qualifications:
- NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or City & Guilds equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or a relevant mechanical engineering discipline.
- Experience working on HGV, PSV, commercial, military, or other motor vehicles is welcomed.
- Mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Good understanding of vehicle systems, components, and preventative maintenance.
- Flexible approach with the ability to work across a variety of maintenance activities.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Ex-military engineers and mechanics are strongly encouraged to apply.
