Salary: £35,000 - £37,500 per annum
Overview: First Military Recruitment are currently supporting one of our established and expanding businesses in the search for a Warehouse Shift Manager. Our client encourages applications from ex-Military personnel; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities for the Warehouse Shift Manager:
- Lead daily pre-shift briefings, communicating priorities, performance updates and safety reminders.
- Support a positive, collaborative working environment through clear expectations and respectful communication.
- Motivate operatives, offering coaching, encouragement and guidance.
- Provide feedback to team members and support multi-skilling and on-the-job training.
- Promote colleague wellbeing, responding fairly and promptly to concerns.
- Enforce Health & Safety working practices and initiatives, ensuring the shift operates in a safe, tidy and compliant environment.
- Manage the workflow across picking, packing, goods-in, put-away and dispatch activities.
- Allocate labour effectively to meet operational targets and respond to volume fluctuations.
- Monitor shift KPIs (order accuracy, productivity, timeliness) and adjust workflow in real time.
- Uphold 5S standards, ensuring workspaces remain safe, organised and efficient.
- Conduct spot checks, audits and quality controls to maintain accuracy, compliance and a safe working environment.
- Troubleshoot delays, shortages, mis-picks or equipment issues promptly.
- Prepare accurate shift reports and handovers to the next shift.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies and suggesting solutions.
Skills and Qualifications for the Warehouse Shift Manager:
Essential:
- Proven experience in warehouse supervisor, leader or logistics management (supervisory level or above).
- Background in 3PL/warehouse management.
- Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills.
- Good understanding of warehouse processes, stock control, and systems.
- Excellent time management, organisation and prioritisation skills.
- Knowledge of health & safety standards and manual handling regulations.
- Ability to analyze performance data and implement improvements.
- Flexible, problem-solving mindset with ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to optimise workflow and resource allocation.
- A keen eye for detail and the ability to understand, follow, and champion company procedures.
Preferred:
- Ability to train and develop staff while maintaining high engagement levels.
- Experience in labour management and task planning for a team.
- Understanding of relevant warehouse technologies.
- Certification in Health & Safety or Warehouse Management.
