Salary: Up To £51,382.50 per annum + £6,000 Vehicle Allowance

Overview: First Military Recruitment is working in partnership with our reputable client who is seeking a Fleet Manager to join their team. The Fleet & Environmental Services Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the company’s commercial vehicle fleet and environmental services operations. The role will ensure statutory compliance, effective vehicle maintenance, high fleet availability and the smooth delivery of transport and environmental services, while supporting the strategic leadership of the Head of Fleet & Environmental Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a large commercial vehicle fleet, ensuring compliance with servicing, MOT, road tax, insurance and fuel card requirements.
  • Deliver fleet induction training to new starters, covering vehicle use, compliance and safety.
  • Manage the fleet leavers process, ensuring the prompt return of vehicles and equipment.
  • Manage motor insurance claims and investigate road traffic incidents involving company vehicles.
  • Coordinate vehicle maintenance, accident repairs and repair contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective resolution.
  • Compile monthly fuel and mileage reports, including monitoring private mileage and Inner London Congestion Charge compliance.
  • Organise and coordinate driver training courses, including liaison with external training providers such as RoSPA.
  • Monitor and respond to transport-related complaints in accordance with company procedures.
  • Manage the Fleet & Environmental Services Coordinator, including timekeeping, holidays, pay and welfare.
  • Review and maintain fleet policies, procedures and processes, introducing improvements where required.
  • Process vehicle-related fines within prescribed timescales and maintain accurate records.
  • Utilise telematics systems to monitor driver behaviour, identify recurring issues and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Support the compliant collection, disposal and recycling of commercial waste, engineering debris and redundant assets.
  • Maintain accurate waste and recycling records to support environmental reporting and company commitments.
  • Ensure waste is processed through accredited recycling centres in line with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Develop effective relationships with vehicle suppliers, repairers and authorised contacts.
  • Support the Head of Fleet & Environmental Services with daily operational activities and cross-departmental projects.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and ensure fleet and environmental policies are effectively embedded across the Group.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety and report accidents, incidents and unsafe working practices appropriately.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths.
  • Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is desirable.
  • Experience managing a large commercial transport fleet is essential.
  • Experience working within a multi-site organisation is essential.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience is essential.
  • Experience working in high-volume, high-pressure environments.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office and fleet management systems is desirable.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and quality standards.
  • Display Screen Equipment, Fire Warden and First Aid at Work training would be advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of fleet compliance, vehicle safety, maintenance and operational risk.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining a proactive and safety-focused approach.
