Overview
We are looking for an experienced Overhead Crane Service Engineer with an electrical background to join a highly regarded engineering team covering industrial sites across the South. This role involves the service, maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair, installation, and commissioning of overhead and gantry cranes. The position is ideally suited to engineers with experience in lifting equipment, industrial electrical systems, controls, or heavy engineering environments. Former Armed Forces personnel are strongly encouraged to apply, particularly those with transferable electrical or mechanical engineering experience. Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain, and repair overhead and gantry cranes
- Carry out electrical and mechanical fault finding on industrial equipment
- Diagnose and repair 3‑phase motors, drives, controls, brakes, and safety systems
- Inspect and maintain pendant and radio control systems
- Install, commission, and upgrade crane equipment
- Conduct LOLER inspections and safety compliance checks
- Respond to breakdowns and emergency call‑outs across customer sites
- Complete service documentation and technical reports accurately
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with company and industry standards
Overtime & Additional Earnings
- Travel time paid from home to site and return at standard rate
- Overtime before 08:00 and after 16:30 at standard rate
- Saturday work at standard rate
- Sunday work paid at 2x rate
Candidate Requirements (Essential)
- Experience working on cranes, lifting equipment, industrial machinery, or similar engineering systems
- Strong electrical fault‑finding skills, including 3‑phase systems and industrial controls
- Good mechanical engineering knowledge
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Professional, reliable, and safety‑conscious approach
Desirable
- NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Knowledge of LOLER and PUWER regulations
- Experience with PLC fault finding and diagnostics
- LEEA qualification or other lifting equipment certification
- Military engineering background
