Overview: First Military Recruitment are currently seeking an Engineering Chargehand on behalf of one of our clients. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy engineering team in a supervisory role, overseeing the day-to-day operation of a vehicle maintenance workshop. The successful candidate will support the Engineering and Workshop Management teams, ensuring engineering activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards while providing leadership and guidance to workshop staff. Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to engineering staff.
- Allocate planned and reactive maintenance work across the engineering team.
- Manage labour overtime within authorised limits.
- Carry out vehicle repairs, servicing, and fault diagnosis as required.
- Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and company procedures.
- Maintain the engineering vehicle status board and daily workshop records.
- Liaise with the Operations team to coordinate vehicle changeovers and breakdowns, minimising vehicle downtime.
- Oversee vehicle cleaning, fuelling, oil checks, and parking activities when required.
- Process vehicle defect reports in accordance with engineering operating procedures.
- Support the Workshop and Engineering Management teams, taking responsibility in their absence where required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and vehicle maintenance experience.
- Previous supervisory or team-leading experience is desirable.
- Good understanding of the safe operation of workshop equipment.
- Good level of IT literacy.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Ability to obtain a PCV licence and Forklift Truck licence if required.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ex-military personnel with relevant engineering and supervisory experience are encouraged to apply.
