Position: Lead Technician

Location: Slough Engineering Depot, Stanley Cottages, Slough SL2 5AQ

Contract: 40 hours per week - full time & permanent

Shifts: Can be discussed at interview

Pay Rate: £22.77 per hour, £47,361 per annum

Do you want to be part of our dedicated team of mechanical engineers and maintenance staff repairing our fleet of buses across Slough? We are looking for NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified Engineers – preferably with HGV or PSV experience and strong leadership qualities. We also welcome applications from ex-Forces personnel with an engineering apprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other sectors looking for a change. Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead the mechanical engineering operation, dealing with bus servicing, breakdown and inspections and diagnose faults, specifying the correct method of repair and length of time it may take to repair.
  • To be flexible in respect of working hours to ensure commitments to operational requirements are fulfilled and will need to remain up to date with any new engineering or health and safety legislation.
  • To be fully up to date with individual bus history paying particular attention to reoccurring defects prior to carrying out the bus inspection.
  • To be familiar with modern repair techniques and the use of electronic and mechanical diagnostic equipment (i.e. Brake rolling road tester, smoke meter, headlight alignment tester, engine oil sampling and diagnostic laptop equipment).
  • To be familiar with computerised engineering systems and the input and extraction of relevant data.

About You:

  • Do you possess a minimum Level 3 NVQ standard or equivalent (i.e. City & Guilds Level 1 & 2) in an engineering field?
  • Have you got the capability to multi-skill within an Engineering Environment?
  • Do you have a flexible approach to working hours?
  • A PCV licence is desirable, ability to obtain PCV licence is essential, and we will help you gain this qualification.
  • Do you have experience of working with buses & coaches, HGV vehicles?
