Position: Lead Shift Mechanic
Location: First Bus Rochdale - Unit 4 Corporation Rd, Rochdale, OL11 4EU
Contracted Hours: 42.5 hours per week (full time & permanent)
Working Hours: 3 week rota of early and late shifts, 5am-3:30pm, 2:30pm-1am
Pay Rate: £23.69 per hour for weekdays, £24.69 for Saturdays, £25.69 for Sundays
Annual Salary: Approx. £50,000 per annum

About the Role: We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified Lead Shift Mechanic for our First Bus Rochdale Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from Light Vehicle qualified candidates and ex‑Forces personnel with an engineering apprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other sectors looking for a change. We offer technical up‑skilling and career progression; your PPE is provided as well as a competitive hourly rate and great rewards & benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and carry out vehicle repairs, servicing, and parts replacement
- Diagnose vehicle faults and specify the correct method of repair and parts to be used
- Main shift supervisor on late shifts, responsible for signing off work
- Carry out vehicle servicing and routine vehicle examinations using handheld data capture devices if applicable
- Attend on‑road vehicle breakdowns and recoveries where required
- Carry out vehicle road testing where necessary to identify specific vehicle defects or following remedial repair
About You:
- Do you have a minimum Level 3 NVQ/SVQ (or City & Guilds equivalent) qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair?
- Do you have a flexible approach to work with the ability to multi‑skill?
- Supervisory experience would be beneficial, or willingness to step up to this level
- Are you a UK driving licence holder? A PCV licence is desirable however we can help you achieve this
