About the team:

The Regional Driver Manager is a vital role within the Head of Drivers function. As RDM, you will lead a team of Driver Depot Managers covering Exeter, Plymouth, Penzance, and Par.

The West region also includes 26 Driver Standards Managers and over 450 Drivers. The team covers diverse networks, including HSS services and the Devon and Cornwall metro. They have a successful track record in delivering projects, such as the opening of the Okehampton route, and will be involved in new traction and infrastructure schemes in the coming years.

About the job:

Main responsibilities include:

  • Leading a growing team and delivering a clear operational strategy.
  • Managing approximately 500 colleagues across 4 train crew depots over a wide geographical area.
  • Building and developing safe, proactive, and successful teams.
  • Implementing a people-centric approach across your teams.
  • Ensuring all competence assessments and training are of the highest quality, providing a reliable train service for customers.
  • Keeping your team informed and up-to-date as a priority.

Requirements:

  • Passion for reducing operational incidents.
  • High standards and self-motivation.
  • Outward-looking mindset, eager to learn and share best practices.
  • Ability to collaborate with other operators, Network Rail, and trade unions.
  • Subject matter expertise in developing standards and working practices.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Understanding of extensive transformation issues in operations and infrastructure, including traction.
  • Experience in planning for smooth transitions during change.
  • Operational experience within a large organization.
  • Experience in complex investigations and safety improvements.
  • Desirable: Train Driver competencies, especially with AC operation knowledge.

Location:

The role covers the West Region, with flexibility for depot locations. Travel within the company is required.

Working Pattern:

This is a 24/7 railway operation, with on-call requirements.
