The Garage Infrastructure Delivery Manager is responsible for the maintenance, renewal, and strategic development of First Bus London's garage infrastructure. This includes the building fabric, building services, operational plant, tools, and equipment required to support safe, reliable, and compliant bus operations. The role ensures that critical infrastructure assets are available, compliant, and fit for purpose, while developing long-term maintenance strategies, capital investment plans, and sustainable infrastructure solutions aligned with the business's operational and decarbonisation objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
- Infrastructure Maintenance & Asset Management
- Ensure the continuous availability and safe operation of critical garage infrastructure, including (but not limited to): Vehicle lifting equipment, Bus wash facilities, Brake testers, Fuel, AdBlue, and charging infrastructure.
- Develop and implement a maintenance strategy, balancing reactive, preventative, and planned maintenance.
- Build and maintain long-term asset and lifecycle plans for garage infrastructure.
- Capital Projects & Works Delivery
- Scope, plan, and deliver capital and renewal projects across the garage portfolio.
- Ensure projects are delivered to agreed time, cost, quality, and safety standards.
- Facilitate effective project planning, resource allocation, and contractor mobilisation.
- Budget Management & Cost Control
- Be responsible for budget control, forecasting, and cost management relating to infrastructure maintenance and capital works.
- Ensure scopes of work are efficient, value-driven, and appropriately prioritised.
- Support business cases for capital investment and renewal funding.
- Compliance, Safety & Risk
- Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation, standards, codes of practice and First Bus Safety Management System including but not limited to lifting regulations, pressure safety system and all other statutory inspections.
- Ensure the upkeep of safety registers such as Asbestos.
- Champion health & safety leadership, including participation in safety tours, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives (e.g. 5S).
- Identify and manage infrastructure-related risks to business continuity and operational performance.
- Sustainability & Decarbonisation
- Support and deliver infrastructure solutions aligned with EV deployment and decarbonisation programmes.
- Ensure garage infrastructure is future-proofed to support electric fleet growth and evolving operational requirements.
- Data, Systems & Reporting
- Ensure clear, accurate, and consistent data systems and reporting tools are in place for infrastructure assets, condition, compliance, and performance.
- Provide structured reporting to senior stakeholders on risks, performance, costs, and forward plans.
- People Leadership & Contractor Management
- Lead and develop a small team of Facilities Managers and an in-house maintenance team.
- Manage external contracts and suppliers, ensuring performance, compliance, and value for money.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Sit on Contracts Management Board.
- Stakeholder Management
- Engage effectively with internal stakeholders including Engineering, Operations, Safety, Procurement, and senior leadership.
- Act as a key interface for infrastructure matters with external partners, contractors, and regulatory bodies where required.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Essential: Proven experience managing multi-site infrastructure or facilities portfolios in an operational environment. Strong understanding of maintenance strategies, asset lifecycle planning, and capital works delivery. Demonstrable experience of budget management and cost forecasting. Working knowledge of health & safety and statutory compliance relating to plant, equipment, and buildings. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Desirable: Experience within transport, fleet, depot, or industrial environments. Exposure to EV infrastructure, power upgrades, or decarbonisation projects. Familiarity with data-driven asset management systems.
Qualifications & Professional Memberships
- Relevant technical, engineering, or facilities management qualification (or equivalent experience).
- Professional membership (e.g. IET, IWFM, or similar) desirable.
