First for Education is seeking a patient and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive mainstream school in Smethwick, working with pupils who require additional support to access learning. This is a full time, long term position, supporting pupils within a mainstream classroom environment. The role may involve working on a 1:1 basis or with small groups, depending on the needs of the school.

SEN Teaching Assistant role requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or SEN TA
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND in a mainstream school setting
  • Understanding of needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH or speech and language difficulties
  • Ability to build strong, supportive relationships with pupils
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • A patient, resilient and nurturing approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs
  • Adapt learning activities to support different learning styles
  • Support the class teacher in delivering inclusive lessons
  • Help manage behaviour using consistent and supportive strategies
  • Encourage engagement, independence and confidence
