Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Oversee daily yard operations including loading, unloading, storage, and dispatch of goods, and vehicles.
  • Schedule and coordinate yard activities to meet production, transport, and delivery timelines.
  • Monitor yard layout and ensure optimal space utilisation and organisation.
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing stock for accuracy, quality, and safety compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock levels, movement logs, and yard documentation.
  • Make improvements to yard processess

Team Supervision

  • Lead, train, and motivate yard team to maintain high standards of performance and safety.
  • Assign tasks and monitor workloads to ensure efficiency and accountability.
  • Conduct daily team briefings and weekly toolbox talks to communicate operational priorities and safety updates.
  • Manage timekeeping, attendance, and performance reviews for yard personnel.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Enforce health and safety policies, including proper use of PPE and adherence to site regulations.
  • Conduct routine spot checks of yard equipment, vehicles. Secondary checks once a week on say a forklift to make sure everyone knows how to do them properly
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, environmental regulations, and legal standards.

Equipment and Maintenance

  • Oversee the maintenance and safe operation of yard vehicles (e.g., forklifts, loaders, cranes, etc.).
  • Ensure equipment is used correctly and kept in good working condition.

Communication and Coordination

  • Communicate clearly and effectively drivers, contractors, and suppliers to coordinate deliveries and collections that come in/out to the yard.
  • Flag and report any significant inventory changes to the office, with a focus on high quantity products, items running on low inventory that require reordering, and slow-moving stock.
  • Work closely with the Depot Manager, Assistant Manager and office team.
