E Driving Licence required for this role Job Summary The Fine Art Casemaker is responsible for designing, manufacturing, and assembling bespoke wooden crates, travel frames, and protective packaging for fine art, antiques, sculptures, and high-value objects.
The role ensures artworks are safely protected during storage, handling, and domestic or international transportation while meeting conservation, client, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities Design and manufacture custom wooden crates, travel frames, and protective enclosures for fine art and high-value objects.
Measure artworks and interpret packing specifications, technical drawings, and client requirements.
Select suitable timber, plywood, foam, and protective materials based on the artwork's size, weight, and fragility.
Construct crates using woodworking machinery, hand tools, and power tools.
Install custom foam inserts, internal supports, cushioning, and bracing systems to prevent movement during transit.
Ensure packaging complies with domestic and international transport requirements.
Carry out quality inspections to ensure cases meet company standards before use.
Assist Fine Art Packers and Art Handlers with packing and loading where required.
Maintain workshop tools, machinery, and equipment in safe working condition.
Keep the workshop clean, organised, and compliant with Health & Safety regulations.
Accurately record materials used and completed work.
Work to production schedules while maintaining exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
Qualifications Qualification or apprenticeship in Carpentry, Joinery, Cabinet Making, or Woodworking (preferred).
Forklift licence (desirable).
Manual handling training (desirable).
Experience Previous experience in woodworking, joinery, crate fabrication, or fine art logistics.
Experience manufacturing bespoke wooden crates or export packaging is highly desirable.
Experience working with fine art, antiques, museum collections, or high-value objects is an advantage. * We are only able to accept applications from candidates with previous experience for this role.
