We are currently looking for a number of Street Cleansing Operatives to work within the Newry, Mourne and Down District council at their Downpatrick and Newry sites. These roles are required to cover evenings and weekends, therefore the successful candidate must be fully flexible between Monday and Sunday. These are temporary roles, initially required for a period of 26 weeks, with the possibility of extension. The pay rate for these roles is £13.63 per hour.
Main Duties:
- Clean and maintain public areas including streets, footpaths, parks, and council-owned spaces.
- Collect litter, empty bins, and remove waste in accordance with council environmental policies.
- Operate cleansing equipment such as street sweepers, litter pickers, and pressure washers.
- Carry out scheduled cleansing routes to ensure consistent coverage and high cleanliness standards.
- Assist with waste collection and segregation to support recycling and sustainability targets.
- Interact professionally with members of the public and respond to basic enquiries.
What We Need From You:
- Previous experience in street cleansing, waste collection, or a similar role.
- Physically fit and able to handle manual tasks, including lifting and moving waste.
- Awareness of health and safety practices and ability to follow instructions.
- Basic customer service skills and the ability to work well in a team.
