The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician to join their dedicated team in Omagh. This is a full-time position (Monday-Friday, 36.25 hours per week) offering an attractive hourly rate of £19.72. The role begins as a 6-month contract with strong potential for extension based on performance.
As a key member of the Fleet Mechanical & Engineering team, you will help ensure the operational readiness of specialist vehicles and equipment across three regional workshops.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct inspections, diagnostics, planned maintenance, emergency repairs, bodywork, coach-building, and modifications on a wide range of emergency vehicles and operational equipment.
- Apply your skills across multiple mechanical disciplines, demonstrating adaptability and technical expertise.
- Support 24/7 operational resilience by participating in the Regional Standby Rota, providing essential out-of-hours assistance including emergency repairs, equipment servicing, and vehicle recovery during live incidents.
- Possess a certified level 3 trade qualification in Vehicle Repair and Maintenance.
- Two years post-apprenticeship experience working within a trade role.
- Can demonstrate experience in plant mechanics and light vehicle repair.
- Possess a current full UK Driving Licence.
