Our client based in Middlesbrough aims to recruit a candidate that can develop into a leading member of the operations team. Diligent, conscientious, flexible, with the attitude and aptitude to lead and drive the production operation.
JOB PURPOSE
To fulfil the Production Plan issued by Operations Supervision.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITY
- Operational
Take all possible measures to meet or exceed production targets. Participate in Works team to formally discuss production, quality, feed safety, environment, engineering and Health and Safety issues. Identify efficiencies and saving within the operation and communicate these to the Supervisor. Formally pass information up and down the line as required. Report breaches in Safety systems to the Supervisor as necessary. Ensure that the shift operates within the Work's rules and procedure as defined by management. In the event of unplanned interruptions to production (e.g. manning problems, breakdowns), organise the workload of self and operators to make best use of the resources available. Liaise and work with external organisations e.g. contractors and other company departments such as Development and Project engineering as required. Attend and participate in site meetings. Accurately report information for inclusion on the production sheets at the end of each shift to identify all relevant issues relating to production, feed safety, environment, quality and Health and Safety. Undertake training as required either on or off site to improve understanding of job function or operation. Communicate inter‑shift information to achieve efficient change over.
- Health & Safety
Take all reasonable measures to ensure that safe working practices are adhered to. Applying all Health & Safety Rules and procedures as defined by management. Bringing any health and safety concerns to the attention of the Supervisor. Apply sound health and safety principles when undertaking non routine work. Undertake Health & Safety training as required to enable fulfilment of responsibilities on site. Work with the site management structure on any necessary Health & Safety improvements.
- Maintenance & Engineering
Work with the Production Engineer to ensure that maintenance takes place with the minimum of disruption. In the event of an out of hours breakdown, assess situation and decide upon the most appropriate course of action with resources available to maximise production and efficiency. Undertake training as required as far as Health & Safety regulations allow to develop maintenance flexibility on site. Receive and relay information relating to site maintenance to the Supervisor.
- Quality and Feed Safety
Liaise with the Quality Department to confirm product specifications. Take appropriate actions to correct quality issues on receipt of information from the Quality Department. Ensure that finished product is within the appropriate specification in the allocated silo or package as per the customers' requirements and that palletised products are secure, neat and protected from the elements. Receive and communicate all relevant quality issues to the Supervisor. Liaise with the Quality Department as necessary to ensure the timely reporting of test results. Conform to all procedures set out in the Animal Feed Management System.
- Environment
Report and take appropriate action to prevent, where possible, all emissions from the site including dust, odour and noise. Maintain Housekeeping standards at all times. Report and/or prevent any oil or fuel spillage into foul or top water drains during out of office hours. Ensure that vehicles loaded leave the site clean and unlikely to carry loose fly dust outside the works' boundaries. Receive and communicate relevant environmental issues to the Supervisor.
How will success be judged
All production targets are met and/or exceeded. Performance issues are dealt with in a constructive and timely manner. Use of time is optimised. All issues relating to the site and production are communicated to the Supervisor. All production staff are contributing to the identification of efficiencies and savings. Shifts are operating within works rules and procedures. All requested health & safety measures are implemented. Effect of breakdowns on production targets is minimised. All production leaving the site is within specification and meets customer requirements. The environmental impact of the site is reduced. Housekeeping standards are maintained at all times.
Working Environment
Production Site. Environmental Factors: Noise & dust - dust masks & ear protection required in certain areas of the Plant. Travel Infrequent - to undertake training as required. Working Hours: 3 x 8 hour shift system, 40 hours per week. 12 hour shifts when required.

- Essential: Good standard of general education. Literate & numerate.
- Desirable: GCSE Standard.
Professional / Technical Qualifications & Training
- Essential: Counterbalance Fork Truck Trained. Health & Safety Awareness. Basic IT Abilities.
- Desirable: Loading Shovel Licence. Experience in Factory Environment.
Work Experience
- Essential: Proven good time keeping and attendance record. Poor attendance or time keeping will not be acceptable. Aptitude and ability to become a senior operator.
- Desirable: Experience in an Industrial environment. Shift Working Operating bulk powder process plant.
Specialist Aptitudes / Skills
- Essential: Proven ability to work to strict production deadlines.
- Desirable: Experienced Production Operator.
Personal Characteristics
- Essential: Team Player. Flexible Approach. Willingness to work overtime at short notice. Self Motivated.
