First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) is looking for an enthusiastic Health & Safety Apprentice to join our Health, Safety and Compliance Team. This is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn, working towards a recognised Health & Safety apprenticeship qualification with Qdos Training while gaining practical experience within a busy housing organisation.

You’ll work alongside experienced health, safety and compliance professionals and gain exposure to a wide range of areas, including colleague and customer safety, building and property compliance, accident and incident reporting, risk management, inspections and assurance.

About the role

Everyone has the right to feel safe in their home and at work. As our Health & Safety Apprentice, you’ll help us make sure important safety actions are recorded, monitored and completed. You’ll support colleagues to identify risks, learn from incidents and continually improve how we keep our customers, colleagues and properties safe.

As your knowledge and confidence grow, you’ll have the opportunity to take on greater responsibility and develop the practical skills needed for a career in health and safety. With support and training, you’ll learn how to:

  • Help coordinate health and safety inspections, audits and assurance activity
  • Track actions arising from audits, inspections and investigations to make sure they are completed
  • Maintain accurate health, safety and property compliance records
  • Work alongside our fire, gas, mechanical and electrical and asbestos compliance teams
  • Support the monitoring of risk assessment actions
  • Assist with accident, incident and near-miss reporting and investigations
  • Support safety campaigns, awareness activities and initiatives
  • Collect and maintain information that helps us demonstrate regulatory compliance
  • Apply what you learn through your apprenticeship to real situations in the workplace

You’ll also have protected time to attend your apprenticeship training with Qdos Training and complete the coursework and assessments required for your qualification.

Entry requirements

You’ll need:

  • English GCSE (or equivalent) – Grade 4/C or above
  • Maths GCSE (or equivalent) – Grade 4/C or above

Please tell us about any other relevant qualifications or industry experience you have. Your apprenticeship may be adjusted to reflect any relevant prior learning or experience.

We’re also looking for someone who has:

  • A genuine interest in health, safety and compliance
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • The ability to look at information and identify important points or themes
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
  • A willingness to ask questions, learn new skills and apply what you learn
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A responsible approach to their work and a willingness to follow procedures
  • A customer-focused approach

You don’t need to already be a health and safety expert. We’re looking for someone with the right attitude, curiosity and willingness to learn and develop.

What you’ll receive

  • Paid employment while working towards a recognised Health & Safety apprenticeship qualification with Qdos Training
  • Dedicated time to complete your apprenticeship learning, coursework and assessments
  • Practical experience across a broad range of health, safety and compliance activities
  • Ongoing coaching, training and development to support your future career
