We’re excited to offer a fantastic full time, 12-month (maternity cover) opportunity for a proactive and organised Assistant Accountant to join our dynamic Finance team.

As our Assistant Accountant – Group, you’ll play a vital role supporting our Finance Business Partner – Group, and our Corporate Accountant in delivering top-notch financial reporting and insights. You’ll help provide timely, accurate financial information to stakeholders across FCHO, supporting sound decision-making throughout the organisation.

This is a hands-on, varied role that offers you the chance to expand your skills and experience in:

Daily banking and reconciliations

Supporting budget holders with financial queries

Assisting with payroll alongside our Corporate Accountant

Contributing to monthly management accounts and year-end financial statements

Key Responsibilities

Manage daily banking and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions.

Perform timely reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts, including bank and payroll accounts.

Prepare monthly management accounts, including budget monitoring, adjustments, and variance analysis.

Support budget holders in understanding financial controls and expenditure variances.

Assist with payroll management and related financial postings.

Contribute to the annual budget-setting process and year-end audit preparations.

Coordinate purchase order processing to ensure smooth procurement operations.

Provide cover for the Rents Accountant as needed to maintain accurate payment postings.

Support the finance team with financial projects and ensure compliance with internal controls.

Who are we looking for?

  • Is AAT qualified or working towards AAT level 4
  • Has previous experience in similar finance role (1-2 years)
  • Has a record of CPD in Finance
  • Has experience of performing bank reconciliations and ensuring key documentation is provided to audit the reconciliations
  • Has experience of and familiarity with general principles of budgets and budgetary control
  • Has experience of extracting data and information from IT systems and able to interpret financial information from systems and spreadsheets
  • Has experience of dealing with external contacts on the telephone
  • Has the ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines and work with minimum supervision
  • Has a high level of computer literacy on both bespoke IT programmes, databases and Microsoft applications
  • Has effective oral and written communication skills at all levels of the organisation
