First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) is looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Joiner to join our Property Care Team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain a recognised Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery qualification through Oldham College whilst working alongside experienced tradespeople maintaining and improving our homes.

We are a housing association formed to benefit our local communities. We are committed to our purpose of providing quality homes and services and with around 10% of the local population living in an FCHO home, we are proud to be an anchor organisation through our significant contribution as a large local business and employer. We own and manage around 11,500 homes, have the highest regulatory (G1/V1) rating, and plan to build more than 600 affordable new homes in the coming years.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain a recognised Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery qualification through Oldham College whilst working alongside experienced tradespeople maintaining and improving our homes. At FCHO we're passionate about investing in local talent and helping people build rewarding careers. Many of our apprentices progress into permanent skilled trade positions, with opportunities to continue developing throughout their career.

Working alongside experienced joiners and other trades, every day will be different and you'll gain experience across a wide variety of joinery work. You'll learn how to:

  • Fit kitchens, doors, skirting boards and architraves
  • Repair and replace flooring
  • Carry out first and second fix joinery
  • Install locks and ironmongery
  • Measure, mark out and cut timber accurately
  • Use hand and power tools safely
  • Read drawings and job specifications
  • Work with other trades including plumbers, electricians and plasterers
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety
  • Deliver excellent customer service

As your confidence and skills develop, you'll take on more responsibility under the guidance of experienced colleagues.
