Associate Underwriting & Assurance Analyst

We’re looking for an Associate Underwriting & Assurance Analyst to join our Underwriting & Assurance team either based in our Salford Quays, Manchester or Haywards Heath, West Sussex offices.
The Underwriting & Assurance Team are tasked with using analytics and insight to drive the ongoing optimisation of the 1st Central Group underwriting footprint, and the monitoring of underwriting performance, to support the delivery of profit and volume targets for the business.
In this role you’ll contribute to and support various projects in these areas and to produce analysis to support the team’s wider objectives.

What’s involved:
- Support the ongoing development and optimisation of the Underwriting Footprint across First Central’s Motor and Home products
- Produce analysis and explore statistical techniques to assess benefit and business impact of proposed changes to Underwriting Footprint including opportunities for profitable growth/expansion and to address any segments of performance concern
- Utilise relevant data sources and tools/packages, e.g. SAS, SQL, Databricks, RADAR, to produce high quality analysis
- Explore sources of third party data enrichment and assess opportunities to enhance Underwriting Footprint controls
- Produce ad-hoc performance analysis to support timely business decision making
- Collaborate with colleagues within team and across wider business, including Technical Underwriters, Pricing and Retail teams, to ensure initiatives are aligned with company objectives as well as customer and regulatory outcomes
- Assist with deployment of Underwriting Footprint rate changes
- Help to identify opportunities for improvement and refinement within Underwriting criteria or processes, and surface these to the appropriate stakeholders
- Support the ongoing Internal monitoring of the Reinsurance Programme and monitoring of Competitor Underwriting activity
- Proactively own personal development – researching and learning about new tools, techniques, and data sources which may benefit the team, under the guidance of the Head of Underwriting Analytics and other team colleagues
- Comply with the requirements, and act in accordance with, the Group Code of Conduct and Fitness and Propriety policies at all times
- Ensure compliance with Company Policies, Values and guidelines and other relevant standards/ regulations at all times
- Any other reasonable duties
Experience & knowledge
- Experience with analytical programming languages and packages, such as SAS, SQL, Databricks
- Experience with RADAR beneficial, but not essential.
- Knowledge of statistical methods and analytical techniques
- Knowledge of personal lines general insurance preferred
- Strong commercial acumen
- Minimum 2:1 in a numerical undergraduate discipline
- Strong mathematical skills
- Good time management and organisation skills
- Strong problem-solving mindset, with the ability to adopt a logical approach to solving problems
- Data and statistical analysis skills preferred
- Strong IT skills (including Excel and ideally programming skills)
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Logical thinker with solid reasoning ability
- Commercially focussed
- Emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy
