The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Night Hygiene Team Leader to join a successful food manufacturing business based in Newmarket. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on hygiene professional with leadership experience to play a key role in maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, food safety, and operational compliance across a busy production facility. Reporting to the Night Hygiene Senior Team Leader, you will oversee hygiene activities across multiple production areas, ensuring all equipment, machinery, and production environments are cleaned and maintained to the required standards. You will also provide leadership and support to hygiene operatives and deputise for the Senior Team Leader when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the night hygiene team across all production areas.
- Carry out and oversee daily cleaning activities.
- Ensure production equipment and processing lines are cleaned to required standards.
- Conduct deep cleaning of both high-risk and low-risk production areas.
- Complete post-cleaning inspections and quality checks.
- Ensure compliance with all hygiene, food safety, health and safety, and company procedures.
- Monitor and maintain cleaning equipment, chemicals, and PPE.
- Report incidents, equipment issues, and hygiene concerns promptly.
- Organise team rotas and support absence management processes.
- Coordinate with production and other departments to ensure operational requirements are met.
- Ensure all hygiene team members receive appropriate training and guidance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the hygiene function.
- Deputise for the Night Hygiene Senior Team Leader when required.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in industrial hygiene cleaning.
- Experience managing, supervising, or leading a team.
- Food manufacturing or FMCG experience.
- Ability to communicate fluently in English, both written and spoken.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety and hygiene standards.
- COSHH awareness.
- Allergen awareness.
- Good IT skills.
- Ability to commute reliably to the Newmarket area.
Desirable Qualifications
- Level 2 Food Safety in Manufacturing.
- GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
