My client is looking for an experienced Production Team Leader to join our team in Newmarket. This role is responsible for leading a team of operatives to ensure production processes run safely, efficiently and to the highest standards of quality and compliance. You will play a key role in delivering production targets while maintaining strong standards in health and safety, food safety and product quality. Leading by example, you will support your team to achieve operational goals while driving continuous improvement across your area.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of line operatives within the production department.
- Report directly to the Shift Manager and provide updates on performance issues and production progress.
- Take responsibility for the performance, training and day to day supervision of line operatives.
- Ensure a safe working environment is maintained and all health and safety and fire procedures are followed.
- Drive key performance indicators for your area and motivate the team to consistently meet targets.
- Monitor product quality and ensure any unsuitable products are rejected while minimising waste.
- Order materials including packaging and product accurately and in a timely manner.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity and cost efficiency.
- Support and oversee the training of team members ensuring they are fully competent in their roles.
- Coordinate and manage the day to day activities of the production team.
- Complete all required checks and tasks including CCP monitoring.
- Accurately complete production systems including Defacto, Redzone and yield reporting.
- Escalate production issues including equipment breakdowns to ensure minimal downtime.
- Ensure all production paperwork and documentation is completed accurately and on time.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across production operations.
- Carry out product changeovers and machine set up in line with company procedures.
- Work closely with the Engineering team to resolve issues quickly during the shift.
- Carry out any other reasonable management requests when required.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Previous experience within a food manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience leading or supervising a team in a production setting.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate, influence and challenge when needed.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Well organised with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Ability to lead teams to achieve safety, quality and production targets.
- Knowledge of GMP standards.
- Knowledge of HACCP principles.
- Understanding of hygiene standards within food production.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards.
- Allergen awareness.
- Basic IT skills.
