We're looking for a Health, Safety, Security & Environment Business Partner to join our team and support the Director of Health, Safety and Security and the Head of Environment in delivering First Bus's Health, Safety and Environmental strategies. This is a high-impact role where you'll work closely with senior leaders and operational teams to drive continuous improvement, ensure compliance and embed a culture of safety and sustainability across our business.
You will be an integral member of the Franchising management team and act as a trusted partner to actively support and facilitate best practice across First Bus. This is a full-time, permanent role, which supports our Franchising business across Wales and Yorkshire. The role can be based anywhere in or around Wales, Yorkshire, North West England or the Midlands but you must be happy to travel throughout the regions on a regular basis.
What you'll be doing:
- Partner with leaders to implement HSS&E strategies and drive continuous improvement.
- Support ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 accreditation and maintain SMS & EMS systems.
- Identify and lead initiatives to improve safety, environmental performance, and wellbeing.
- Advise and coach managers on legal compliance and practical HS&E solutions.
- Conduct audits, risk assessments and investigations to enhance standards.
- Analyse performance data, identify trends and recommend improvements to senior Managers identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and deliver HS&E training and contribute to policy development.
- Represent First Bus at internal and external HS&E forums.
About you:
Qualifications:
- NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum), working towards NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
- NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate or IEMA equivalent
- Chartered Member of IOSH (or working towards)
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in a similar Business Partnering role working in a complex organisation
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior levels
- Commercially astute with effective problem‐solving abilities
- Experience in unionised, multi‐site environments
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage time, prioritise and work across a matrix structure
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and risk management expertise
- Skilled in delivering strategic training and development programmes
- Strong understanding of UK HS&E legislation and practical application
- Experience in project and change management
