About the role
The Engineering Manager holds overall responsibility for supporting the business during all planned and unplanned absences of the local engineering teams across our Glasgow depots. This key role will take charge of the largest electric vehicle (EV) charging site in the UK, overseeing a fleet of 300 vehicles, including 150 EVs, with capacity for further growth.
First Bus is at the forefront of innovative technologies, including EV fleets, renewable energy solutions such as solar power and rainwater recycling, as well as a state-of-the-art depot established in 2014.
The Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing workshop operations, ensuring fleet availability, and maintaining the highest standards of vehicle reliability to provide an exceptional service to our customers. The role also involves offering strong leadership, fostering staff development, and motivating the engineering team, while collaborating with supervisory teams to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
Additionally, during periods not dedicated to direct depot support, this role will focus on data analysis aimed at reducing costs and enhancing service delivery.
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday
Salary: £55,000 – £60,000 (level of experience depending)
Reporting to: Head of Engineering
About you
- A minimum Level 3 NVQ standard or equivalent, City & Guilds in mechanical or electrical engineering is essential.
- Ideally a TMCPC holder, but if not, training will be provided.
- Must be fully conversant with the safe operation of workshop equipment.
- Must have proven knowledge of relevant legislation concerning HS&E, maintenance of HGV or PSVs, Road Safety etc.
- Necessary IT and Computer skills such as SAP, MS Office etc., are needed to fulfill the role.
- Do you have working knowledge of DVSA Legislations and Categorisation of Defects?
- Proven leadership skills are essential to provide strategic and day-to-day direction to your team.
