Key Responsibilities of a Prototype and Production Wire Person

  • Soldering to a consistently high standard.
  • Production of wiring harnesses and cable assemblies, including crimping, soldering, lacing, and splicing to aerospace standards.
  • Wiring of cabinets, small enclosures, and fixtures.
  • Mechanical assembly of components within equipment.
  • Assembly of PCBs to IPC 620 Class 3, which is desirable but not essential.
  • Working from engineering drawings to required build standards within agreed time frames.
  • Producing high quality prototype and small scale production builds, typically no more than three of the same product.
  • Liaising with in-house engineers to resolve technical queries and provide build solutions for prototype assemblies.
  • Reading and understanding engineering drawings, wiring schedules, and circuit diagrams.
  • Maintaining a tidy, methodical, and organised working environment.
  • Providing on-site support at customer premises when required.
  • Ensuring ESD awareness and adherence to safety procedures at all times.

Key Skills of a Prototype and Production Wire Person

  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within the defence or aerospace sector.
  • Strong knowledge of cable types, connectors, and cable assembly techniques, including Raychem lay techniques.
  • Experience with a variety of connectors such as D38999, Molex, DIN41612, Harting HAN, MAC Panel, VPC, and military specification connectors.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
  • Ability to demonstrate skills through a competency test.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • IT literacy, including experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Correct use of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Aware of ISO9001 standards and health and safety requirements.
  • Full UK driving licence.
