Key Responsibilities of a Metrology Engineer
- Oversee measurement requirements across operations, including moulding validations, in-process inspections, and non-conformance investigations.
- Program and operate Zeiss CMMs, request appropriate fixturing, and carry out Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
- Work closely with Verification Services to support the transition from operational qualification to production qualification.
- Carry out precise measurement and inspection of products and components using a range of metrology equipment.
- Analyse measurement data to identify trends, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of measurements, calibrations, and inspections.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, internal procedures, and quality regulations.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve measurement-related issues.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide guidance and training to colleagues on metrology equipment and best practices where required.
Key Skills and Experience of a Metrology Engineer
- Previous experience in a metrology-focused role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Proven experience programming and using Zeiss CMMs, including Calypso software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret measurement data and identify trends.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant metrology or data analysis software.
- Relevant metrology or quality-related certifications are advantageous but not essential.
