First Base Employment are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for t Quality Inspector opportunities within their busy precision engineering and manufacturing environment in Derby.

We are looking for experienced Quality Inspectors with proven experience within manufacturing or precision engineering. The successful candidates will have strong attention to detail, be confident using a range of inspection equipment and be comfortable working from engineering drawings and technical documentation

Key Responsibilities of a Quality Inspector:

  • Carry out First Off Inspection, Receipt Inspection, inspection and calibration activities as required.
  • Run CMM programmes, analyse and record results, and make appropriate quality decisions.
  • Support the internal non-conformance process, including raising rejects and ensuring all containment actions are captured.
  • Liaise closely with Engineering to support the smooth transition of new products through New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Read and understand Job Cards and all relevant manufacturing instructions before commencing work.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, inspection plans, data cards and other technical documentation.
  • Use a range of measuring and inspection equipment to verify component conformity.
  • Carry out in-process inspections to ensure components meet the required standards before progressing to subsequent operations.
  • Identify and communicate any non-conforming components in accordance with the relevant procedures.
  • Complete accurate work booking requirements within the MRP system.
  • Follow correct work handling and storage procedures to prevent damage to components.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis activities following non-conformances to help prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working area in line with 5S principles.
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement activities to support efficiency and quality.

Key Skills of a Quality Inspector:

  • Previous experience working as a Quality Inspector within a manufacturing or precision engineering environment.
  • Experience carrying out First Off and in-process inspections.
  • Experience using CMM equipment and running CMM programmes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience using a range of precision measuring and inspection equipment.
  • Strong understanding of quality procedures and non-conformance processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a right-first-time approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Reliable, organised and able to manage and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, safety and housekeeping
