First Achieve is recruiting on behalf of a specialist engineering client for a Mechanical Fitter to join their permanent team at Fawley Oil Refinery. This role focuses on rotating equipment maintenance, particularly pumps across the site.
The Role
Working on-site at Fawley, you'll be responsible for the maintenance, repair, overhaul, installation and commissioning of rotating equipment, supporting both corrective and preventative maintenance activities. You'll work closely with refinery engineers and the wider maintenance team to deliver high-quality work safely, on time, and to exacting standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Removal, strip-down, inspection, repair and rebuild of rotating equipment
- Installation and commissioning of pumps and associated equipment
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Measuring and recording dimensions, tolerances and clearances
- Completing job reports, strip-down reports and rebuild documentation
- Ensuring all work is carried out in line with site HSEQ procedures and permit-to-work systems
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and site organisation
- Working both independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to carry out ad hoc duties as required
- Participation in overtime and shared call-out arrangements when needed
Pay & Benefits
NAECI Blue Book Rates - Grade 5 (2025 rates): Basic Rate: £22.44 per hour Overtime A: £31.42 per hour (Monday-Friday & first 4 hours Saturday) Overtime B: £40.39 per hour (Over 4 hours Saturday & all-day Sunday) Travel Allowance Paid for every shift travelled, calculated based on home address to Fawley Oil Refinery in line with NAECI Blue Book rates (Scale 1). Not applicable during sickness or annual leave.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience working with rotating equipment (pumps essential; gearboxes, turbines, motors and valves desirable)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable working to strict safety and quality standards
- Good communication skills
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid CCNSG Safety Passport
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Valid Passport
- Medically fit and willing to undergo drug & alcohol testing
- Basic IT skills (Microsoft packages; ERP systems desirable)
Work Environment
Refinery-based role. Overtime may be required at short notice. Shared 24-hour call-out responsibilities as required.
