First Achieve Engineering are recruiting on behalf of their client for an experienced Fabrication & Welding Chargehand to join a busy and growing engineering business.

The Role

As Fabrication & Welding Chargehand, you'll lead from the front, overseeing day-to-day workshop operations while remaining hands-on with fabrication and welding activities. You'll be responsible for ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards while supporting and motivating the workshop team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team of fabricators and welders.
  • Ensure all fabrication and welding work is completed to specification and quality standards.
  • Read and interpret engineering and technical drawings.
  • Carry out and oversee fabrication activities using a range of workshop equipment and machinery.
  • Perform welding on steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.
  • Utilise MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes.
  • Monitor workflow and assist in achieving production targets and project deadlines.
  • Conduct quality inspections and address any issues promptly.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and promote health & safety best practices.
  • Work closely with management and production teams to ensure smooth project delivery.

What We're Looking For

  • Time-served Fabricator/Welder with proven industry experience.
  • Previous Chargehand, Team Leader, Supervisory, or Senior Fabricator/Welder experience desirable.
  • Strong fabrication background with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Proficient in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding.
  • Experience working with steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.

  • Applicants must be time served and proof of papers prior to interview.

  • Successful candidates will be required to complete an initial weld test as part of the recruitment process.
