Role Summary
As a Graduate SHEQ Officer, you will support the development, implementation, and continual improvement of Firerite’s SHEQ management systems. You will help ensure compliance with legal, industry, and client requirements, while promoting a strong culture of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility. This is an ideal role for a recent graduate seeking to develop a career in SHEQ within a dynamic and accredited fire safety organisation who are passionate about life safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the development and maintenance of Firerite’s Integrated Management System (IMS) aligned to ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.
- Assist with the implementation and monitoring of the company’s SHEQ policies, procedures, and systems.
- Carry out site inspections and audits across various locations to ensure compliant SHEQ working practices.
- Support the completion and review of risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and COSHH assessments.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and support the implementation of corrective actions.
- Support the management of occupational health surveillance programmes to support workforce wellbeing and compliance.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date health and safety records and documentation.
- Assist in the delivery of health and safety inductions and toolbox talks.
- Monitor contractor and employee compliance with internal and external SHEQ standards.
- Support the management of PPE, equipment checks, and safety-related training.
- Collaborate with teams across Firerite to embed a proactive SHEQ culture.
- Keep up to date with changes in health and safety legislation and best practices.
Requirements:
- IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate (or working towards).
- Strong interest in SHEQ and compliance in technical or operational environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with good organisational and time management abilities.
- Willingness to learn and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites as required.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, or BAFE schemes.
- Working knowledge of process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma, including root cause analysis and continuous improvement techniques.
- Previous experience in a SHEQ-related placement or internship.
- Knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Membership or working towards membership with IOSH, IEMA, CQI or similar professional bodies.
