Established in 2012, we complete more than 200 fire risk assessments each month across a wide range of premises, from small shops and offices through to industrial warehouses, schools and larger commercial properties.

We are completely independent.

We do not sell fire safety products, remedial works or servicing, meaning our recommendations are based solely on what is needed to improve fire safety and meet relevant legal requirements.

We hold BAFE SP205 certification, demonstrating our commitment to recognised industry standards, competence and quality.

Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Fire Risk Assessor (Intermediate/Advanced) to join our team on a full-time, home-based basis, covering the York, Leeds and Manchester areas and the wider northern region.

You will carry out fire risk assessments across a variety of commercial premises, using your knowledge, experience and professional judgement to identify significant fire risks and provide practical, proportionate recommendations.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include

• Carrying out fire risk assessments at commercial premises that fall within your demonstrated level of competence, seeking advice or appropriate supervision where necessary
• Identifying fire hazards and evaluating existing fire safety measures.
• Assessing the adequacy of existing management arrangements and fire safety procedures
• Producing clear, accurate and well-structured fire risk assessment reports to include relevant and appropriate evidence for the findings
• Providing practical and proportionate recommendations based on the risks identified.
• Discussing findings with business owners, managers and other responsible persons and explaining relevant legal requirements in a clear and professional manner.
• Working with colleagues and the wider assessment team to maintain consistency and quality across our reports.
• Working within our established processes and procedures and the requirements of our BAFE SP205 certification.
• Working in accordance with BS 8674 and maintaining the knowledge, skills, experience and behaviours (SKEB) required for your defined level of competence.
• Keeping accurate assessment records and maintaining your knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and fire safety guidance.
• Contributing ideas and feedback to help us continually improve our assessment processes, reporting and service.

What we're looking for

We are looking for someone who is technically competent, professional and genuinely interested in fire safety.

You should be comfortable working independently while also being willing to contribute to a wider team.

You will need

• A minimum Intermediate Fire Risk Assessor qualification (Fire Qual/Pro Qual or equivalent).
• At least 5 years' proven experience carrying out fire risk assessments, applying relevant fire safety legislation, standards and guidance across a range of premises, including medium-risk premises
• Evidence of competence appropriate to the level and type of fire risk assessments undertaken.
• Strong knowledge of relevant fire safety legislation, standards and guidance, with the ability to apply this appropriately to different premises and circumstances.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings and legal requirements clearly to non-specialist clients.
• Strong analytical and professional judgement skills, enabling you to identify risks and develop practical, evidence-based recommendations.
• The ability to work independently, manage your time effectively and complete assessments and reports to a consistently high standard.
• Hold a full, current UK driving licence and be legally entitled to drive in the UK.
• Have regular access to a reliable, well-maintained and roadworthy vehicle suitable for business use.
• Be willing and able to travel to client premises across the designated geographical area as required by the role.
• Maintain appropriate insurance cover for business use.
• Good IT skills and confidence using report-writing and other digital systems.
• A commitment to maintaining and developing your professional competence through continuing professional development, in accordance with BS 8674 and the SKEB requirements for your defined level of competence.

• £45,000 salary for a 40-hour working week.
