Be the face of a new kind of local news in the North East and Cumbria. Firefly's magazines are growing fast and the stories come from the people who live there.
Your job is to get the schools, young people and rural communities of your patch telling theirs, on camera and on the page, and to enjoy every minute of being out there doing it.
What you'll do
- Run regular sessions and events in your patch
- Help first-timers, from residents to local businesses, publish on our platform
- Get out and about, meet the groups and businesses that matter, and bring them in
- Be the face of local news in your patch: short phone clips, team updates and social posts that show people what's possible
You
- Know the patch and its people
- Are happy to start conversations, put people at ease, and enjoy being out and about
- Are comfortable with a smartphone for photos, video and social
- Can get around your patch: a driving licence and access to a vehicle will usually be needed, so tell us if you would get around another way
Pay and the contract
- £1,050 to £1,175 a month for about 9 days a month, depending on experience, plus 28 days' holiday a year pro rata (including bank holidays) and a workplace pension
- Fixed-term employed, 1 November 2026 to 19 March 2027 (start date by agreement)
- The North East and rural Cumbria. Travel and expenses paid, mileage at 45p a mile
- Enhanced DBS check (this role works with schools and young people), arranged and paid by us
