About the Role
The Operational Risk & Control Manager will be responsible for implementing effective risk and control procedures across Operations, IT, Marketing, and other business departments. As the first line of defence, this function collaborates with teams to identify, analyse, and manage risks in everyday activities and change projects. The ideal candidate will be data-driven, leveraging risk metrics, MI, and incident data to engage top stakeholders, explain the importance of effective controls, and drive behavioural change throughout the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business teams to identify and analyse operational risks, create risk registers, and transform findings into actionable insights.
- Strengthen controls. Maintain and test important controls, track remediation, and identify patterns to drive improvement.
- Managing incidents: Responsible for capturing, analysing, and reporting accidents and near misses, including root cause reviews and preventative measures.
- Deliver risk reports: Create concise, data-driven MI, dashboards, and KRIs for senior management and governance forums.
- Collaborate with the business: As a trusted advisor on risk and controls, coach colleagues, engage senior stakeholders, and promote accountability.
- Support change initiatives by including risk concerns in projects and decision-making from the beginning.
Requirements
- Experience with operational risk and internal controls in financial services or other regulated environments.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and deliver data to impact senior stakeholders and increase participation.
- Comprehensive understanding of operational procedures and hazards across several functions (e.g., Operations, IT, Marketing).
- A track record of conducting incident investigations and driving root cause resolution.
- Demonstrates strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, including the ability to challenge and influence effectively.
- Excellent Excel/Power BI (or similar) abilities for risk data analysis and MI building.
- An understanding of regulatory expectations (FCA, PRA) is desirable.
