The Role:
As an Underwriter, you will play an important role in assessing and progressing second charge mortgage applications. You will work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure applications are accurately assessed, well documented and progressed within agreed service levels.
Key Responsibilities for the Underwriter:
- Review and manually assess second charge mortgage applications in line with lending criteria
- Verify customer documentation and request additional information where required
- Assess income, expenditure and affordability to support responsible lending decisions
- Review applications carefully to identify any risks, inconsistencies or missing information
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records throughout the application process
- Liaise with customers and internal stakeholders to progress applications efficiently
- Manage a caseload against agreed service levels, quality standards and KPIs
- Develop your knowledge of specialist lending and underwriting through structured training and hands-on experience
Experience needed for the Underwriter role:
- At least 12 months experience assessing or processing loan or finance applications
- Experience reviewing income and expenditure information as part of a lending process
- Previous experience within lending, mortgages, financial services or a related environment
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to assess information accurately
- Good communication skills with the confidence to liaise with customers and internal teams
- A structured and organised approach to managing multiple cases
- A genuine interest in developing your knowledge of mortgage lending and underwriting
- Experience in motor finance, consumer lending or other lending environments will also be considered.
