Role Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Head of Finance to lead its Luxembourg finance function. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, transparency, and operational efficiency within a regulated framework. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all finance activities, driving process improvements, and supporting the business as it continues to scale. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to operate effectively within an international and multicultural organisation. Fluency in both Japanese and English is essential for this role, given the global nature of the business and regular interaction with international stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Finance Leadership & Operations
- Lead and develop the finance function, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability
- Oversee financial accounting, including revenue recognition, accounts payable, and month-end/year-end close processes
- Maintain and enhance financial controls, policies, and procedures
- Prepare and review internal and external financial statements
- Deliver accurate financial reporting and performance analysis
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
- Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with Luxembourg regulatory requirements and financial reporting standards
- Support timely preparation and submission of regulatory reports to the CSSF
- Liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure successful audit completion
- Treasury & Tax
- Manage treasury activities, including cash flow, banking relationships, and reconciliations
- Oversee corporate tax matters (direct and indirect taxation)
- Systems & Process Improvement
- Identify and implement systems and automation to enhance financial efficiency
- Drive process optimisation to support business growth
- Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Compliance, Risk, and Operations teams to ensure robust financial governance
- Partner with international offices, particularly in Japan, to ensure alignment and transparency across the group
- Contribute to global finance and cross-functional projects
- Governance & Reporting
- Provide regular updates to senior management and the Board of Directors
- Escalate key financial and operational matters where appropriate
Candidate Profile
- Education & Qualifications
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent)
- Experience & Skills
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in finance/accounting roles with increasing responsibility
- Strong experience within regulated financial services environments (e.g. banking, payments, fintech)
- Solid knowledge of Luxembourg GAAP (IFRS and US GAAP considered advantageous)
- Hands-on experience across the full accounting lifecycle
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
- Experience working in international and multicultural environments
- Prior exposure to Japanese organisations or stakeholders is highly advantageous
