FINTEC recruit is seeking a Marine Project Engineer for our marine client based in South Shields. This is a permanent role based on site where you will be part of the planning and delivery of engineering projects for RN vessels working within the commercial team. Salary is in the £35,000 to £40,000 range depending on experience plus benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Involved in technical aspects/scopes of project delivery. Full cycle from initial request to execution and delivery of projects.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders in developing and implementing engineering solutions.
- Oversee engineering implementation of upgrades and modifications onboard vessels.
- Provide engineering input & oversight both on-site and remotely when required.
- Liaise with MOD representatives ensuring technical alignment and compliance with defence standards.
- Support the preparation of detailed work packages; monitor and resolve technical issues.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and contribute to project reporting.
- Assist in cost and resource estimation, change control, and continuous improvement activities.
- Attend project client meetings as the lead engineer.
Skills and Qualifications required for the Marine Project Engineer:
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Electrical Engineering (or similar discipline).
- Experience of Royal Navy, RFA or MOD managed assets is desirable.
- Knowledge of Classification Society, Flag State & defence specific regulations.
- Proven experience in a project engineering role, ideally within defence or marine sectors.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills with a hands-on understanding of engineering systems.
- Ability to manage multiple technical workstreams and liaise with diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with engineering project lifecycles, maintenance planning, and OEM coordination.
- Project Management training or certification (eg Prince 2 / APM or equivalent desirable (not an essential).
