FINTEC Recruit is recruiting an experienced Senior Radio Frequency Microwave Engineer to join their clients engineering team, working on complex systems for airborne radar products. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced RF Microwave engineer to work on technically challenging projects within the aerospace and defence sector, contributing to the design, development, integration and testing of advanced radar systems. The successful candidate will take responsibility for delivering high-quality RF and microwave circuit designs and may also have the opportunity to supervise and support less experienced engineers within the project team. This is a full time role based in Edinburgh.

The Role

As a Senior Radio Frequency Microwave Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, commissioning and testing of microwave circuitry for complex airborne radar systems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing high-quality and robust RF / microwave circuits
  • Supporting hardware and system-level integration and verification activities
  • Designing and developing microwave sub-systems
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation and project deliverables
  • Ensuring designs remain under configuration control
  • Supporting design reviews and technical investigations
  • Providing regular project progress updates
  • Supporting and potentially supervising less experienced RF / Microwave engineers
  • Planning and managing your own technical activities and deliverables

Essential Skills & Experience

Essential experience includes:

  • Microwave PCB materials and design techniques
  • Microwave sub-system design
  • Microwave power amplifier design and technology
  • Complex microwave switch matrix design
  • Application of GaAs / GaN MMICs
  • Complex passive microwave structure design
  • S-parameter manipulation
  • 2D and 3D electromagnetic simulation techniques
  • Non-linear circuit simulation and modelling
  • Matching network design
  • Microwave component selection
  • Strong understanding of radar and RF systems
  • Experience with frequency synthesiser design and receiver architectures
  • RF / microwave PCB-level design using COTS active and passive components
  • Experience using one or more RF / Microwave design tools, such as: AWR Microwave Office, CST Microwave Studio, Keysight ADS, AWR Visual System Simulator

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience within the aerospace or defence industry
  • Experience working on complex or high-reliability systems
  • Experience designing DDS, PLL, DAC and ADC circuits
  • High dynamic range and low-noise circuit design
  • Experience with phase-noise reduction techniques
  • Experience capturing and managing hardware requirements
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools and formal hardware verification
  • Previous experience supervising or mentoring RF / Microwave engineers
  • Experience planning and managing technical work for yourself and a small team

Qualifications & Security Clearance

Honours or Master's degree in Electronic Engineering or a related STEM discipline, with a specialisation in RF / Microwave circuit design. UK Citizenship is mandatory to meet security requirements and obtain SC clearance. Existing SC Clearance would be advantageous.
