Location of the role: London

Role Overview: The Global Head of Payments and Settlements is responsible for the end‑to‑end management, control, and optimisation of settlement and payments operations across all jurisdictions and products. This role ensures the accurate, timely, and compliant settlement of international payments, FX trades and digital account transactions, while overseeing operational relationships with banking counterparties and liquidity providers. Operating in a highly regulated, multi‑jurisdictional environment, the role is critical to maintaining financial integrity, liquidity efficiency, and operational resilience across the firm’s global footprint. The role reports into the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with Finance, Compliance, Dealing and Technology departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Settlement Operations & Control: Own and oversee global settlement processes across all payment rails, currencies, and products. Ensure timely and accurate settlement with banking counterparties and liquidity providers. Maintain strong daily controls around reconciliation, payments and safeguarding. Define and monitor settlement SLAs, cut‑off times, and escalation procedures.
  • Counterparty & Liquidity Management: Act as the operational lead for settlement‑related relationships with banking counterparties and liquidity providers. Coordinate with the internal finance team to ensure efficient liquidity positioning and funding across accounts and regions. Support onboarding of new counterparties, currencies, and payment schemes from a settlements perspective.
  • Regulatory & Risk Oversight: Ensure settlement operations comply with regulatory expectations across FCA, FINTRAC, and DFSA jurisdictions. Support internal and external audits, regulatory reviews, and reporting requirements. Identify, assess, and mitigate settlement, operational, and counterparty risks.
  • Process Optimisation & Scale: Collaborate with Head of Dealing and CTO regarding net positioning and credit headroom. Design scalable settlement frameworks to support business growth and new products. Drive automation, straight‑through processing, and operational efficiency initiatives. Partner with Technology and Product teams on system enhancements and new integrations.
  • Leadership & Governance: Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing global settlements team. Establish clear governance, documentation, and controls across all settlement activities. Provide regular management reporting, KPIs, and risk metrics to senior stakeholders.

Key Requirements:

  • Significant experience in settlements and payments operations within an EMI, bank, or payments institution.
  • Strong understanding of international payments, correspondent banking, and liquidity flows.
  • Proven experience managing multiple banking counterparties and liquidity providers.
  • Deep knowledge of operational risk, reconciliations, and control frameworks.
  • Experience operating in regulated environments across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Leadership experience managing teams across regions and time zones.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
