We have an opportunity for a Hygiene Operative to join our Hygiene Team at Lightbody, part of our Finsbury Food Group. 135 years of craft baking skills lie behind the quality of the special branded cakes, sweet snacks and slices we produce in Hamilton and 55 million products are produced each year. Lightbody is the UK’s largest supplier of celebration cakes to UK retailers, with Disney, Mars, Universal and Thorntons all within the portfolio of branded cakes made under licence. We also make a variety of supermarkets’ well-loved own-label cakes and in-store bakery bites.
As a Hygiene Operative, you will play a vital role in ensuring our production site remains clean, safe, and ready for operation. You will work across all production areas, following strict hygiene procedures and maintaining exceptional standards that help us consistently meet customer and audit expectations. Meeting hygiene targets on time and in line with food safety, legality, and health & safety standards is essential.
This is what you’ll actually do!
- Ensure that equipment and facilities are cleaned to the highest hygiene and food safety standards.
- Follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules, complete deep-clean tasks, and carry out shutdown cleans including machinery strip-downs (training provided).
- Maintain good hygiene and housekeeping as central to your daily duties.
- Follow “clean as you go” practices, promote safe behaviours, and work towards zero accidents.
- Accurately complete hygiene paperwork to demonstrate full compliance with due diligence, technical requirements, and site procedures.
- Maintain pest-control standards and adopt safe systems of work to help ensure a safe environment for all.
This is an attractive and varied role, though at times it will also involve repetitive work, so you will need the resilience to meet that challenge while maintaining excellent standards. The role is predominantly lone working, so you must be confident working independently, using your initiative to complete tasks safely and efficiently. However, there will also be occasions where you will work as part of the wider hygiene team to support operational requirements.
Ideally this is you!
- Previous experience in hygiene or industrial cleaning (preferred)
- Experience in FMCG or food manufacturing (advantageous)
- Strong attention to detail with a conscientious approach
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Confident working independently when required
- Physically fit and able to bend, lift, and access areas under machinery
- Good attendance and timekeeping
- Ability to meet deadlines and work to schedules
- Strong knowledge of high standards of hygiene
What’s in it for you?
- Enhanced Maternity & Paternity Leave to allow quality time with your new arrival!
- Enhanced Pension Scheme for our employees
- Free Employee Assistance Programme (open to colleagues and their families)
- Retail discounts accessible via our Benefits Hub platform!
- Refer a Friend Scheme (up to £300 per referral – T&C’s dependent)
- Employee Recognition Awards
- Extensive Learning & Development opportunities (including opportunities for sponsored professional memberships and our own in-house development course!)
- An opportunity to be part of a fantastic, growing organisation.
