We have an opportunity for a Shift Engineer to join our Engineering Team in our Coatbridge site as part of the Finsbury Food Group. Finsbury Food Group is a leading specialty bakery manufacturer. We constantly raise quality and efficiency standards and build long-term relationships within the foodservice channel. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment where quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do.
To be successful in this role, you will be a fully qualified Engineer with strong electrical and mechanical expertise, ideally with experience in the food manufacturing industry. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and be confident working both independently and as part of a team.
This is what you’ll actually do! In this role, you’ll be responsible for both planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance across a wide range of production equipment. You’ll apply your electrical and mechanical expertise to ensure equipment reliability and minimise downtime, supporting production to operate as efficiently as possible. Your day-to-day work will include fault finding, repairs, and identifying root causes of breakdowns, ensuring all maintenance activities are completed to a high standard. You’ll record all work carried out, including duration, root cause, and materials used, through the CMMS system (Mainsaver). You will ensure full compliance with Food Safety, Health & Safety, and quality standards at all times, maintaining a clean and safe working environment in line with GMP. You’ll also manage engineering supplies as required to support maintenance activity. Alongside this, you’ll identify and support improvements to machinery, production lines, and processes, contributing to continuous improvement and productivity projects across the site. You’ll communicate effectively with the Engineering Shift Manager, Production teams, and other key stakeholders, particularly around unscheduled downtime and corrective actions. Supporting production operators to develop basic asset care skills will also form part of your role, helping to improve overall equipment performance. This is a hands-on, varied role in a busy environment, with a supportive and friendly team culture and opportunities for personal development and continuous learning. With ongoing investment in production and equipment at the site, your problem‑solving skills and proactive approach will make a real difference to improvement and engineering projects.
Ideally this is you!
- Qualified Multi‑Skilled Engineer with strong electrical capability.
- Essential qualifications: Time‑served apprenticeship, with appropriate mechanical and electrical capability (Depending on ‘core’ discipline) SVQ3, or HND.
- Minimum 2 years experience (desirable)
- Competent with single‑phase and three‑phase systems
- Qualified to work to 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Experience in a fast‑paced manufacturing or FMCG environment (food production preferred).
- Skilled in planned maintenance, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Competent with CMMS systems, ideally Mainsaver.
- Strong understanding of Food Safety, Health & Safety, and GMP.
- Hands‑on, proactive, and able to work independently or as part of a team understanding team goals.
