We have an exciting opportunity to join our Hygiene function as a Hygiene Shift Manager at our Memory Lane Cakes site in Cardiff, part of the Finsbury Food Group. This is a crucial role within the operation, ideal for someone with strong people management skills, a detail-focused mindset, and a passion for maintaining world-class hygiene standards in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
Our Memory Lane Cakes site is one of our cake bakeries within Finsbury Food Group. We make a large percentage of the UK\’s sharing cakes from retailer own brands cakes, tray bakes through to party cakes like Caterpillar cakes. They employ over 850 people on site and the sites runs 24/7, which encompasses a culture of Team work, friendly and respectful leadership and a focus on Continuous improvement at all levels.
This is what you\’ll actually do!
As aHygiene Shift Manager, you will take full accountability for the hygiene team on the night shift. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the completion of all planned and reactive hygiene tasks, maintaining food safety and audit readiness, and leading a high-performing team to meet operational and hygiene excellence.
You’ll manage training, administration, and personnel across the shift, ensuring compliance with standards for pest control, waste segregation, laundry, and amenities. You\’ll be responsible for supporting audit preparation, planned or unplanned, so attention to detail and a proactive mindset are critical.
You’ll also help upskill the team in deep cleaning procedures, complete regular hygiene and food safety audits, and maintain clear communication across shifts and with the wider site leadership. Building strong relationships with other functions, especially Operations and Engineering, is essential to ensure seamless collaboration and shared goals.
Ideally, this is you:
- Experienced in managing hygiene or support teams, preferably within food manufacturing
- A strong leader with a track record of coaching, developing, and empowering teams
- Knowledgeable in food safety and hygiene standards, including audit preparation (e.g., BRC)
- Pragmatic, self-sufficient, and comfortable making decisions under pressure
- Strong communicator with the confidence to challenge positively and build cross-functional relationships
- Detail-oriented and proactive, with excellent organisation and time management skills
- IT literate, proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Desirable: Experience in pest control management, budget control, and continuous - improvement initiatives
