Shift: 4on4off, 17:00 - 05:00 (Nightshift)

We have an opportunity for an Engineer to join our Engineering Team in our Pontypool site as part of the Finsbury Food Group. Finsbury Food Group is a leading specialty bakery manufacturer, constantly raising quality and efficiency standards and building long-term relationships within the foodservice channel.

Our Ultrapharm site is a dedicated Gluten Free Bakery specialising in only Gluten Free Products since 1993. The Company’s unique approach to craft and baking creates premium gluten-free products with the flavour and taste of traditional bread. Our Products range from artisanal bread to our award-winning Hot cross buns and Mince pies for Major Retailers such as M&S and Waitrose.

To be successful in this role, you will be a fully qualified Engineer with strong electrical and mechanical expertise, ideally with experience in the food manufacturing industry. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment, work well as part of a team, and demonstrate clear communication skills.

This is what you’ll actually do!

  • Responsible for both planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of production equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with Food Safety, Health & Safety, and quality systems.
  • Diagnose faults, perform repairs, and identify root causes.
  • Record all activity, duration, and materials in the CMMS system (Mainsaver).
  • Manage engineering supplies to support ongoing maintenance needs.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to machinery, production lines, and operational processes.
  • Support projects, continuous improvement activity, and productivity initiatives.
  • Report unscheduled downtime and corrective actions to the Engineering Shift Manager or Production Manager.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping in line with GMP.
  • Support or coach operators to develop basic asset care skills.
  • Liaise with appropriate levels of staff to ensure effective communication regarding problem resolution.
  • Monitor contractors to ensure their standard of work is acceptable.

This is a hands-on role where your mechanical and electrical expertise, problem-solving skills, and proactive approach will make a real impact on plant reliability and efficiency.

Ideally this is you!

  • Qualified Multi-Skilled Engineer with strong electrical and mechanical skills.
  • Essential qualifications: Time served apprenticeship, with appropriate mechanical and electrical capability (Depending on ‘core’ discipline) SVQ, or HNC.
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or FMCG environment (food production preferred).
  • Skilled in planned maintenance, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis across mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Competent with CMMS systems, ideally Mainsaver.
  • Strong understanding of Food Safety, Health & Safety, and GMP.
  • Hands-on, proactive, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent communicator with clear, concise reporting and problem-solving skills.
